More Maine Moose

As our summer in Maine winds down, we are still finding more moose. Read about it here in the Bangor Daily News (although they have an annoying paywall, so you can only read a couple of free stories a month - sorry - but can see our quick 1 min moose video here). But if you've never visited the state, it's splendid in so many ways, not the least being the weather (well, except for winters). This year, while the rest of the country sweltered, we'd wake up to 50s/60s almost every day and mostly 70s high (and not a whisp of smoke from the Canadian fires which was weird since they were so clase). Expecting around a 100 when we return to the South soon. Oh joy.

Looking for Moose

Spending some time in Maine this summer, looking for moose. Found a few and even named one "Icy." Our moose hunting, with a camera of course, detailed in the Bangor Daily News recently, here (it was one of those slow news days).

Mum and her best friend

And thought is was me. Let's just say her best four-legged friend. When she became ill 20 years ago in Australia, one of her great concerns was what would happened to her beloved Rufus after she was gone. No probs. We loaded him on the plane (he was not happy) and brought him back to America where we lived. Never seen a dog so happy as when we collected him from the plane. He went on to have a happy life for another five years.

New Three Stooges Book

The Stooges were kind of goofy. But for many who grew up in an earlier time they are very nostalgic. In his new book, Gary Lassin writes about an often overlooked aspect of the comedy group's career - their touring which was pretty gruling, up to some 6 months a year. The book is gorgeous, with over 750 pages and some 1,400 photos. Most from the author's private collection, hundreds having never been published before. Gary talks about the book here.

Ram on the Run

By a curious coincidence, March not only signifies the beginning of the astrological zodiac sign Aries – the flying ram – but also happens to be the month, back in the 70s, of my own rather memorable ‘flying’ sheep thrill. I kid ewe not. Story here.

All the President's Pets

Naturally, on this President’s Day, we want to remember all those amazing occupants of the Oval Office we have loved and admired so much … all the President’s ….pets. This story (once again updated) has been recycled more times than a political stump speech. In today's Hartford Courant.
