Bing Crosby for Christmas, Anyone?

I'm a huge Bing Crosby fan. So I was delighted when Crosby Enterprises released some new, great material this holiday season. You can read more about this, together with my brief Q&A with Bing's son, Harry, in today's San Francisco Chronicle.

Among the recent releases are The Crosby Christmas Sessions CD and The Television Specials: Vol 2 - The Christmas Specials DVD, the latter containing the famous David Bowie/Bing Crosby duet of "The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth." I've had the CD in my player non-stop for the past two weeks - sure, everyone is the house is being driven nuts - but 'tis the season for my annual Christmas Bing binge. Additional Bing material to be released in January. And for a touch of more Bing nostalgia, visit one of the Bing Crosby restaurants in San Diego, Rancho Mirage, or Walnut Creek.

"May your days be merry and bright"

Ah, that silver-tongued crooner! Muck better than Elvis's rendition of Blue Christmas!

I definitely associate Bing Crosby with Christmas, having grown up listening to him croon all the Christmas hits, but I gotta tell you: my mom always played Neil Diamond's Christmas album (and the guy's Jewish, too) so when it comes time for Christmas Carols - Neil Diamond comes first, Crosby a very close second.

I hope you had some lovely holidays, Nick!

Happy memories to all. I like Bing Crosby, Bing cherries, and Bing Bong (a pony I used to ride when I was a young'un). Merry Christmas everyone.

I watched White Christmas with the same delight as always, and am always awed by the uniqueness of Bing's voice.

I also loved him in the remake of Philadelphia Story.

Happy New Year to you!

I love Bing Crosby too and specially the little drummer boy. Christmas is just not Christmas without Bing in the background. I'll have to visit his restaurant in San Diego on one of my trips out there.

Wow...I remember watching that Christmas special and loving the idea of Bing paired with David Bowie...so cool then and very cool now. Some things just get better with time.

I used to love watching the Bing Crosby and Bob Hope road movies. But I haven't seen on in a while as my French channels don't show them.

Bonne Année!

It's always interesting to me how people do Christmas in different ways. My dad's always in charge of the songs on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, but around here the old Boney M cd still is king. You can't argue with the man in his own house ... not unless you want to get the smalles piece of Christmas pudding. Not good.

Thanks for leaving the comment on my blog; yours looks quite interesting and I'm looking forward to reading some more of it :)
